Swangs Cottage, Lowick Green, near Coniston in the Lake District, Cumbria, is dog
friendly self catering accommodation available for rent. Our delightful, historic 16th
century Lakeland farmhouse with original oak beams is an ideal base for visiting the Lake
District area, in particular Coniston and the surrounding Lake District.
Swangs, is a picture postcard white washed cottage. It has been sympathetically
renovated and furnished to the highest standards. Swangs is full of original features,
cosy and comfortable. It has the added advantage of stunning views over the Coniston
Old Man range of mountains and the Crake Valley. Our cottage oozes character, style and
an appreciation of the simple things in life!
Swang means swamp or marsh and it is believed that our original farmhouse was built
near marshland. Furthermore, the oak beams came from local ships in nearby Greenodd.
Swangs is situated in a quiet, rural location in the heart of working farmland, just 3 miles
from Coniston Water, in Lowick Green, standing in a row of 4 cottages on a private lane.
The cottage has it’s own private parking for 2 cars and a lovely enclosed cottage garden
with fields to the front and back.
Lowick Green is a traditional village surrounded by farmland, farmed by local families
throughout the ages. Lowick still hosts the annual Lowick show, an excellent display of
local craft and produce and is actually located on the Cumbria Way. Lowick and nearby
Sparkbridge were renowned for producing conical basketware.

The property has electric storage heating and compromises:

Entrance to Swangs is via the private lane and the small, gravelled patio garden. This
would originally have been the rear garden.

- Kitchen: The stable door leads to a fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, microwave,
fridge, freezer, ceramic hob and electric fan oven, food processor, spice rack and
cookery books. The Breakfast bar looks out onto the Coniston Old Man Range with
a view of the Old Man. - Dining Room: The kitchen leads to a delightful open beamed dining area with
fireplace and electric feature stove. This room introduces you to 1 of the 4 original
window seats in the cottage. The dining room also houses the washer/dryer,
CD/Radio and bookshelves with many quality titled books (fiction and non-fiction). - Lounge: The dining room leads to a colourful, cosy, comfortable lounge with lots
of character and original cottage features. Antique furniture, original artwork, low
oak beams with original hanging hooks, stone/slate fireplace with multi-
fuel/woodburning stove are set off with the contemporary bright yellow and
aubergine hues. There is a selection of Lake District guides/books/maps and
family games. The lounge leads to the rear cottage garden through what would
have been the main entrance of the original farmhouse and original front garden.
First Floor
Stairs from the lounge lead to a compact landing and first floor comprising:
- Bathroom: Brand new Ideal Standard white bathroom suite including toilet, wash
basin and large showerbath with Mira Sport shower. - Twin Room: Delightful cottage bedroom with twin beds. Window seat with view
over the rear garden and fields. - Master Bedroom: Delightful cottage bedroom with built-in walk-in cupboard
offering plenty of storage. A travel cot and baby booster seat is available on
request.
Outside
- Front Gravelled Patio Garden: Includes cast iron table and chairs and bench. It
overlooks the Coniston mountains and is ideal for barbecues and watching
sunsets. - Rear Cottage Garden: The fully enclosed suntrap rear garden with patio,
summerhouse, tables, chairs and benches is perfect for alfresco meals. It is
private, enclosed and safe for kids to play.
